Royston Health and Rehab Celebrates National Nursing Home Week

FullSizeRenderThe City of Royston and the Royston Downtown Development Authority are celebrating National Nursing Home Week.

Royston Mayor David Jordan read a City proclamation Tuesday at the Brown Health and Rehab Center in Royston honoring all those who live in a skilled nursing facility.

Sponsored nationally by the American Health Care Association, this year’s theme is “Bring on the Fiesta,” and is focusing on events designed to encourage residents, families and other relatives and friends to “get personal” with their loved ones and caregivers.

Care centers will also be taking time this week to honor and recognize staff members for their commitment to work, educational advancement, or professional awards.

Brown Health and Rehab is welcoming their new Administrator this week.

Brenda Smith started officially on Monday, taking over for retiring Administrator Mary Kelsey.  Smith said while it’s early days yet, she is already planning to make improvements to the nursing home.

“I do some updating on the facility I want to do, minor things,” she said. “It’s too soon to tell right now what programs I will be bringing in, but there will be some changes that I think will be good changes.”

Smith lives in Toccoa and has worked for Heritage Healthcare of Toccoa and for Hill Haven in Commerce.
