Photo ID Needed to Vote Today, Says Elections Supervisor

vote7If you are going to vote today, Franklin County election supervisor Gina Chappalear says there are a couple of things you need to remember as you go to the polls.

First, she says make sure you have a valid photo ID with you when you go to the polls.

“Make sure you have a valid photo ID with you when you go to vote,” she said. “If you don’t have a photo ID with you, you will be issued a provisional ballot and you will have three days after that to bring in a valid ID to our office for those votes to count.”

Chappalear says you do have to have a photo ID to vote and there are different types of ID’s that are acceptable.

“Military ID, College ID or any ID with photo of the voter on it,” Chappalear said. “We do make photo ID’s in the Elections office but we can’t make one the day of the Election. Those take seven to ten days to come to you in the mail, but they are only for those who do not have a state-issued driver’s license.”

And if you are newly registered to vote or have moved or not voted in a long time, you might not be sure of where your precinct is.

Chappalear says her office will have staff in the Elections office today available to help you.

Finally, Chappalear says If you are not registered to vote you won’t be able to vote in this election. However, you have plenty of time to register before the general election in November.
