Open House Today for New Lavonia EMS Station

An open house will be held this afternoon to celebrate the completion of the new Lavonia EMS station.

Last fall, Franklin County commissioners voted to accept the offer of three-quarters of an acre of land on Gerrard Road in the Lavonia Industrial Park from the Franklin County Industrial Building Authority for the new station.

Construction began earlier this year.  The current location off SR17 in downtown Lavonia is old and falling apart, and too small for the EMS’s current needs.  The new station will be able to house three ambulances, a day room, bunk room,  bathroom and kitchen.

Franklin County emergency services director Terry Harris said last fall the new building will give his staff a more central location from which to answer calls.

The new station was built using county SPLOST funds.  Today’s open house takes place from 2p to 4p and is open to the public.
