Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Four on Multiple Charges Related to Walhalla Area Armed Robbery

(Walhalla, SC) The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested four area individuals, two men and two women, Sunday on multiple charges related to an armed robbery at a residence in the Rock Crusher Road area of Walhalla.

44 year old Kenric Lamont Heard of Hartwell, Georgia, 28 year old Joshua Allen McCurley of Hwy 187 in Anderson, 37 year old Michele Elizabeth Elgin of West Oak Highway Westminster, and 28 year old Audrina Marie Rich of Persimmon Road in Townville were arrested on Sunday and booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 1:26 PM and has been served with arrest warrants charging them with one count each of Armed Robbery with a Weapon, Kidnapping, Assault and Battery 3rd Degree, and Petit Larceny.  28 Year old Joshua Allen McCurley of Hwy 187 in Anderson was taken into custody by Anderson County Deputies after a pursuit led into their county.  Anderson County Sheriff’s Office possessed outstanding felony warrants for McCurley, and a hold was placed on McCurley by Oconee County Deputies for all of the above charges as well as Failure to stop for Blue Light, Reckless Driving, and other traffic offenses.

Deputies from the Uniform Patrol Division responded to a residence on Rock Crusher Road during the morning hours of December 27th, and made contact with the victim, who stated one of the suspects held a gun on him while others assaulted him and stole property from inside his residence.  The victim was able to give a description of the vehicles and their direction of travel, where Oconee deputies located them a short time later near the Westminster city limits.

When deputies attempted a traffic stop on the vehicles, one fled the area, leading to a pursuit that continued into Anderson County, where ACSO deputies deployed stop sticks, assisting in the apprehension of two of the suspects, to include McCurley.  The other vehicle was pulled over in the area of Highway 11 and West-Oak Highway, where shortly before stopping deputies witnessed a pistol thrown out of the passenger side window.  Deputies retrieved the weapon shortly after identifying and detaining the other two suspects.

At this time all subjects remain in jail, with Elgin, Heard, and Rich in the Oconee Detention Center on Surety Bonds, and McCurley remaining in the Anderson County Detention Center awaiting processing on charges from that jurisdiction to be processed before being turned over to Oconee County to face warrants in this jurisdiction.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.  Anyone with any information regarding this crime, including the identity of other suspects involved, is asked to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC or leave a tip online at www.oconeesccrimestoppers.com.  All information given to Crimestoppers is confidential and if your tip leads to an arrest, you could be eligible for a cash reward.
