New Florist Opens in Familiar Location

Brannon ribbon cuttingThere’s a new florist in Lavonia in a familiar location.

On Tuesday, the Franklin and Lavonia Chambers of Commerce welcomed Brannan’s Floral Design and Landscapes to town with a special ribbon cutting.

Brannan’s is located in the same building that housed Ron’s Florists for years on Augusta Road.

Ron Walters retired several months ago due to illness.  Larry Brannon is the owner of the new shop along with his wife.

Brannon said he chose to locate in the Ron’s Florist location to continue a tradition.

“Because we’re in this line of work, I wanted to keep this building because everybody knows this is a flower shop,” he said.

Brannon has been a landscape architect for over 25 years, but recently decided to launch into the flower business.

“We’ve been in the flower business for about a year and a half,” he said. “I’ve always been interested in design and the creativity of it all. So, when my wife and I decided to venture out into our own business, the floral design part just seemed like something we could do as well.”

Helping with the floral design, Brannon said, is designer Wanda Whitfield.

“I still have a lot to learn about floral design and Wanda is also teaching me,” he said.   Brannon said in addition to floral design, he will also be offering landscape design services.

“We will continue to do landscape design, so anyone who is interested in having us come out and look at their yard and come up with a plan, we are happy to do that,” Brannon said.

Brannon said response to his new shop from the community has been encouraging so far.

“It’s been warm and welcoming,” he said. “I’ve had several people come in and tell me they’re glad it’s still a flower shop. Others have come in and asked where Ron is and I’ve had to tell them what’s going on, but again, they will say, ‘We’re glad you’re here.’ So, it’s been great and so far everyone I’ve met in the community has welcomed me.”

Brannon said his immediate goal is to get out into the community more to let people know who they are and that the flower shop is once again open for business.
