NEGA Shelter Enlists Scout Troop 51, Shearhouse Nursery for New Landscaping Project

Scouts from Troop 51 planted a Japanese Maple on Arbor Day at the NEGA Animal Shelter as part of the new landscaping

Lavonia Eagle Scout Troop 51 is working with the Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter and Shearhouse Nursey on a new landscaping project for the front of the shelter’s new adoption wing.

Eagle Scout JJ Ginn said the plan is to brighten up the grounds around the shelter and new adoption wing with new plantings and brickwork.

Ginn said all of the new landscaping is being dedicated to the late Margaret Ayers who had a special love of animals and was a faithful supporter of the shelter.

The Shelter Board, Ginn said, gave him their plan for a garden area dedicated to Ayers.

Ginn said he hopes to begin working on the landscaping around the end of August, but Scout Master John Mollett said they also have to consider when certain plants can go in.

Shelter Board member Pam Stone tells WLHR News they plan to open the adoption wing by the end of August.

A special open house is being planned for sometime in September.
