More Drug Arrests in Stephens County

In Stephens County, more arrests involving drug possession and trafficking.

Last week, deputies with the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Cornelia man who was allegedly found to be in possession of drugs.

According to Stephens County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Commander Lt. Kylar Johnson, while on routine patrol, a deputy located a suspicious vehicle on the side of Brookhaven Circle near Lakeside Hills Road.

The deputy approached the vehicle and reported seeing a significant amount of movement inside.

Once the deputy contacted the driver, he noticed a glass smoking pipe and an eyeglass case on the ground beneath the driver’s door.

The deputy then looked inside the glasses case and located a quantity of methamphetamine, a quantity of marijuana, as well as other drug-related objects such as syringes and smoking devices.

The driver, identified as 44-year-old Phillip Alexander, of Cornelia, was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Marijuana, Tampering with Evidence, and Possession and Use of Drug Related Objects.

The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of two Toccoa men following a traffic stop where drugs were found.

Johnson said a deputy with the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office STING unit was conducting a concentrated patrol in the Shorewood Community when he observed a yellow Plymouth Valient failing to maintain its lane.

After pulling the vehicle over the deputy searched the vehicle and Johnson said found a glass smoking pipe containing suspected methamphetamine rolled up in a rag inside the dash.

The driver, 31-year-old Billy Peeples, and passenger 34-year-old Joshua Bates were both arrested and transported to the Stephens County Jail.

Peeples remains in the Stephens County Jail on an $11,800 Bond. Bates also remains in the Stephens County Jail on a $6,000 Bond.
