Mitch Murphy Announces Candidacy for Franklin County Sheriff

Former Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputy Mitch Murphy announced his candidacy for Sheriff on FB Tuesday night.

Another candidate has thrown his hat into the ring for the job of Franklin County Sheriff.

Former Franklin County Sheriff’s deputy Mitch Murphy has announced his candidacy for Sheriff.

“With an illustrious 36-year tenure at the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, I am excited to announce that I will be running in the upcoming Sheriff’s election for Franklin County,” he announced on his Facebook page. “I bring a wealth of experience and dedication to the realms of law enforcement and public service. My journey within the department has included working for 3 different sheriffs and has seen me excel in diverse roles, including that of a Patrol Deputy, Investigator, and Shift Supervisor, showcasing my adaptability and leadership.”

Murphy has taken a temporary leave from his duties as a Sheriff’s deputy to run for office.

Murphy is the third candidate to formally announce his intention to run for Sheriff in Franklin County.

In October, Former Georgia State Patrol Post 52 Commander Scott Andrews announced his intention to run for Franklin County Sheriff.

That announcement was followed in December by former Sheriff’s Deputy Brian Stovall.

Stovall is being endorsed by Sheriff Steve Thomas who said in December that after 20 years, he would not run for re-election.

Qualifying for the Sheriff’s race takes place in March. The Election is May 21.
