Man Refuses to Leave Lavonia Insurance Company, Claims He Was Robbednd

An employee of Frank’s Insurance called the police this week after a customer demanded his money back from a canceled policy and would not leave.

According to Lavonia Police Chief Shane Edmisten, it happened Monday afternoon at the Frank’s Insurance office on Augusta Road.

He said Monday at about 2:30p two Officers responded to Frank’s Insurance in reference to an individual, identified as Paul Raines, who had called 911 alleging he had been robbed.

When officers arrived along with two other Lavonia police units Raines was in the parking lot by his vehicle with a red bag.

He told officers that the insurance company robbed him of his money because they had canceled his policy and would not refund him the full amount he had paid for the entire year upfront.

Officers told him that was not a robbery but a civil issue.

When Raines refused to believe that and began arguing with the officers he was put in handcuffs and searched.

An employee of the insurance company explained to officers why the policy had been canceled and that Raines had come into the office demanding his money back and would not leave even after the employee explained she did not have the money.

She told officers that a paper check from the insurance company that issued the policy had refunded Raines’ money and it had been mailed to him.

Warrants were taken against Raines for False Report of a Crime.
