Local Voters Cast Ballots Today in General Primary, NonPartisan Election
It is the General Primary Election, Nonpartisan General Election, today in Georgia and polls are open until 7p this evening.
Voters in Franklin and Hart counties are deciding on a host of local, state, and federal races.
In Franklin County, voters will have five local races to decide, including Franklin County Commission Chair, County Sheriff, County Commission District 1 and two Franklin County Board of Education seats.
First, Incumbent Sheriff Steve Thomas is being challenged by Tim Hill. Hill lists his occupation as Stephens County Deputy Sheriff.
Second is the race for the Franklin County Commission Chair.
Four candidates are running in that race.
They include Incumbent Thomas Bridges, who is being challenged by
Nicholas Clark, Sharon Anne Powell, and County Commissioner David Strickland.
In the race for Franklin County Commissioner For District 1, three candidates are running.
They include incumbent Robert Franklin, former District 1 Commissioner Angela Whidby, and local businessman Mark Barrett.
Finally, two Franklin County Board Of Education Posts are being challenged.
For Post 1, incumbent Joe Greene is being challenged by Royston businessman Eric Burrell.
And for Post 2, incumbent Dr. Pam Stone is being challenged by retired educator Jo Beth James.
And Hart County voters will have three local races to decide today – one county commission race, the Sheriff’s race and one Board of Education race.
In the County Commission District 3 race there are three new candidates. Incumbent Jimmy Carey has chosen not to seek re-election.
Those candidates include, Jerry L. Mchan of Hartwell, Mary Beth Focer of Hartwell and Marshal Sayer of Bowersville.
In the race for Hart County Sheriff, incumbent Mike Cleveland is runnning against Canon businessman Sammie Price.
For the Board of Education District 5 seat, three candidates are running, Alan Hill Dennis Dowell. and Scotty Graham.
Incumbent Angie McGee chose not to run for re-election.
