Local Veterinarian Honored for 50 years of Service to Community

Well-wishers turned out in force Sunday afternoon to help local veterinarian Dr. Pat Hitchcock celebrate 50 years of helping animals in our community.

A long line of people stretching down the hallway waited Sunday afternoon to shake his hand and congratulate him on his years of service to people and their animals.

Dr. Hitchcock said he was overwhelmed by the response from the community but indicated he’s not ready to retire just yet.

Dr. Hitchock first set up his practice at his location on East Main St. in 1974 and since then has served hundreds, if not thousands, of animals including dogs, cats, all kinds of different kinds of pets, livestock, and wildlife.

Over the years, Dr. Hitchcock has not only helped animals but has also helped launch the medical and veterinary careers of many local students who worked at his practice.

One of those is Dr. Jason Macomson who recently published a book entitled Red Barn Tales, based on his experiences as a student and now veterinarian working with Dr. Pat.

To celebrate Dr. Pat’s anniversary all year round, you can also stop by Lavonia Animal Hospital anytime and purchase a 50th-anniversary t-shirt.

The Lavonia Animal Hospital is located at 870 East Main St. In Lavonia.

They’re open Monday – Friday from 8:30a to 5p.
