Lavonia Woman Takes Over as Service Center Director at Toccoa Salvation Army

The Salvation Army in Toccoa has a new Service Center Director and she’s from our neck of the woods.

Recently, Rebecca Dixon began work there as the Service Center Director.

Dixon, who is from Lavonia, has a long background in social ministry and she says making the transition from her previous work was no problem.

“Previously, I worked for Volunteers of America, an organization created by one of the sons of General William Booth of the Salvation Army. So, when this job became available in Toccoa, this just seemed to be a good fit. I am a minister by training and by calling. So, everyday right here this is the Gospel right in front of us,” Dixon explained.

The Toccoa office of the Salvation Army serves 11 counties in Northeast Georgia, including Franklin and Hart counties, and they are always in need of volunteers, which means her scope of service covers a wide area.

“I am responsible for the Service Center, which is the division that assists people with utilities, food, rent, prescriptions, clothing, etc.,” she explained. “I also supervise our family store, which is a resale store. I’m also responsible for making sure the community knows we are here.”

Dixon also oversees Salvation Army volunteers, and she said need volunteers throughout the year not just in Toccoa, but across the 11 counties they serve.

Dixon said right now they are in need of volunteers for their Christmas kettle drive at locations in Stephens, Franklin, Hart, Habersham and White counties.
