Lavonia Police Hosting Cookie With a Cop Tuesday

Lavonia Police invite the public to stop by Chick-Fil-A Tuesda and have a cookie…with a Cop.

Police Chief Shane Edmisten tells WLHR News, his department in conjunction with Chick-Fil-A will be sponsoring Cookies With a Cop on Tuesday, May 9 from 4p to 6p.

Edmisten says Cookie with a Cop is just another way for the community to meet one-on-one with his officers and build relationships.

“It’s a way for the public to come through and meet the officers,” he said. “We’re going to have patrol cars with the blue lights going for the kids to see the cars. We’ll probably stand out in the drive-thru and hand out cookies. And Chick-Fil-A is going to have a cookie-decorating station for the kids. It’s a good way to mee the community and let them see who we are and how we operate and ask any questions they might have.”

Lavonia Police have initiated a number of similar events in the past, such as Coffee with a Cop and Storytime with a Cop.

Edmisten says he’s held a Pizza in the Park for kids in the past.

“I’ve done Cookie with a Cop. I’ve done Coffee with a Cop. I just like to mix it up and try something different. We’ve even done Pizza in the Park in my previous agency. And we bought pizza for the kids at the pool in the park on a spring afternoon. That was really good. So the kids got to see the police cars and we even had the fire department bring the fire truck out for the kids to see it. And that was nice,” he said.

Chief Edmisten said he’s considering having a similar event for kids here in Lavonia later this year.

Again, Cookie with a Cop is coming up Tuesday afternoon from 4p to 6p at the Chick-Fil-A on Highway 17 in Lavonia.
