Lavonia Man Indicted on 20 Counts in High-Speed Chase Arrest

A Lavonia man has been indicted by the Franklin County Grand Jury on 20 counts resulting from a high-speed chase last March.

Christavier Marquez Brown was indicted on two counts of Attempting to Elude a Police Officer, one count of Receiving Stolen Property, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, two counts of Obstruction of an Officer, drug possession, and a host of traffic and motor vehicle offenses.

According to Lavonia Police Chief Shane Edmisten on March 22 Brown allegedly failed to stop his 2004 Suzuki motorcycle at a stop sign and a chase ensued down Highway 17 when he refused to pull over for the Lavonia Police officer.

The chase ultimately involved law enforcement from the Lavonia Police Department, Franklin and Hart County Sheriff’s deputies, and Troopers with the Georgia State Patrol.

At one point, the motorcyclist Brown fell off his bike and tried to run but was quickly captured.

Chief Edmisten said after his arrest, officers found a loaded and stolen Glock handgun in Brown’s waistband, along with a quantity of Schedule 2 narcotics.
