Lavonia City Council Meets Tonight, Fr. BOC Meeting Rescheduled

The Lavonia City Council will hear the second reads on two zoning requests when they meet for their regular meeting this evening.

At their June meeting the Council approved the first reading of an annexation and zoning request on Highway 59 near Tiger Tail Road for the construction of a new townhome community.

The property at 6919 Highway 59 is owned by Craig and Janie Cleveland and is being developed by Caleb Musser.

In his application, Musser asked that the property be rezoned to R-3 Multi-family District for the construction of 50 townhomes.

Musser told the Council the townhomes would be owned and would include a Homeowners Association with a sale price of $250K and up depending on the square footage.

The townhomes he said would also have one or two-car garages.

No one spoke in opposition to the townhome plan or the annexation request.

After hearing from Musser the Council approved the rezoning request and then the annexation request.

The Council also approved the first reading of an application to rezone of two adjoining properties at 12935 and 12953 Jones St. that were zoned residential and are owned by Larry Thomas Jones and Elizabeth Jones Cline.

Both of the homes on those two properties are old and have been vacant for years.

O’Reilly Automotive Stores, Inc. Has applied to rezone the properties from R-1A to B-2 Local Business District.

During the public hearing, no one spoke in opposition to the rezoning request and the Council passed the first reading of the rezoning unanimously.

Tonight the Council will also hear from a Lavonia Eagle Scout who will present his proposal for a community service project, and they will consider passing a budget amendment.

Tonight’s meeting takes place at Lavonia City Hall at 5:30p and is open to the public.

On another note, the Franklin County Board of Commission meeting that normally meets on the first Monday of the month has been pushed back to next Monday, July 8 at the Justice Center in Carnesville beginning at 6p.
