Lavonia Carnegie Library Closed for Repairs

The Lavonia Carnegie Library has closed temporarily for repairs to its electrical system.

Branch Manager for the Franklin County Libraries Maggie West said extensive damage was caused last month when on October 11 a truck slammed into a power pole across from the library.

West said the electrician determined that several outlets had to be replaced as well as the entire HVAC system which was damaged beyond repair by the power surge.

Then, when freezing temperatures came through, West said it was decided to close the library until all repairs were completed.

West said working with the City of Lavonia and Pines Library System it was decided to close the 112-year-old historic library until all repairs to the HVAC and electrical system could be made.

She said the parts have been ordered and it is hoped repair work will begin this week.

West added that anyone who has books due back to the Lavonia library can return them to any Pines library including Royston, Hartwell, or Toccoa.

West said she did not have an exact timetable for how long the repairs will take nor when the Carnegie Library will re-open.
