Jordan Elected New Hart County Chief Magistrate

Hart County h as a new Chief Magistrate Judge.

On Tuesday, it was a fairly light turnout as voters went to the polls to choose between run-off candidates local attorney Todd C. Townsend and local businessman Thomas J. Jordan came out on top.

After the votes were counted Tuesday night, Jordan came  out the clear winner of that  seat with 55.73% of the vote or 1,547 votes.  Townsend received 44.27% of the vote or 1,229 votes.  That’s just over 21% of the 13,134 registered voters in Hart County.

Townsend and Jordan were the top two candidates from an original field of seven on March 19th vying for the seat left vacant when former Chief Magistrate Tony Welborn died suddenly last October.

During the campaign, Jordan said if elected, he will bring a common sense approach to the job.

Townsend cited his 20 years experience on the municipal court bench in Hartwell as the main qualification for the position of Chief Magistrate in Hart County and if elected, said he would give fast access to law enforcement to search and arrest warrants.
