Jason Swiney Named New Franklin County Schools Athletic Director

The Franklin County Charter School System has a new Athletic Director and a new Middle School Principal.

After a special called Board of Education meeting Monday morning, the Board announced that Jason Swiney has been appointed the new Athletic Director.

He replaces Clay Moore who resigned at the end of June.

Swiney was hired by late School superintendent Chris Forrer in 2022 and has been the principal of Franklin County Middle School for the past two years.

He came to the school system from Winder and before that, he worked in the Stephens County School System where he served for a total of 14 years.

As for his experience in school athletics, Swiney has coached basketball at both the high school and college levels and has served as president of the Northeast Georgia Interscholastic Athletic Association (NEGIAA).

Swiney hit the ground running Monday immediately after his appointment as Athletic Director preparing for the upcoming school year.

Assuming the role of Franklin County Middle School Principal as of Monday is former Middle School Assistant Principal Dr. David Cawthon.

Cawthon also came to the Franklin County School System in 2022 as Assistant Principal at the Middle School from the Stephens County School System.

The new school year begins August 1 with a preplanning day for teachers and staff.

Students return to the classroom on August 2.
