Hart County HS Named AP Honor School by Georgia Department of EducationDOE

Hart County High School is among the list of schools named by the Georgia Department of Education as an Advanced Placement (AP) Honor School.

The school was recognized in the area of Advanced Placement Expansion.

AP Expansion Schools are AP schools with a 25% growth in AP student participation from May 2022 to May 2023 and had a minimum of 25 students testing in May 2022.

For 2024, Hart County High School is one of just 276 schools from 99 school districts across the state to make the list of AP Honor Schools.

“This recognition is a testament to our school system’s commitment to educational
excellence and our dedication to meeting the diverse needs of all our students. By
providing multiple entry points for exploration and fostering an environment that
promotes academic rigor, we empower our students to excel and thrive,” Superintendent
Jennifer Carter said. “AP courses play a pivotal role in this journey, offering valuable
opportunities for our high-achieving students to push their boundaries and reach their
fullest potential. This achievement would not have been possible without the collective
efforts of our teachers, administrators, students, and the community. As a system, we
strive for continuous improvement and hope to continue to be recognized in the future
as an AP Honor School.”

“We really push our students to challenge themselves,” Hart County High School
Principal Kevin Gaines said. “Our AP teachers do a great job of getting students ready
for the AP exam. We are certainly proud to offer a rigorous curriculum for our students
and we want our students to be challenged so they are ready to be enrolled, employed,
or enlisted when they leave HCHS.”

AP exams are administered by the College Board, which also administers the SAT. AP
courses are one of several ways Georgia students can access college-level learning at
the high school level; students who receive a 3, 4, or 5 on an AP exam may receive
college credit. GaDOE began recognizing AP Honor Schools in 2008.
