Hart Co American Legion Participating in Wreaths Across America Saturday

The Hart County American Legion Post 109 is once again putting together an effort to lay memorial wreaths on the graves of every fallen veteran in the county.

It’s part of a national effort called Wreaths Across America.

Wreaths Across America is a nonprofit organization that coordinates wreath-laying ceremonies at more than 1,600 locations across the United States, at sea, and abroad.

The wreaths are to remember fallen veterans, honor those who serve, and teach children the value of freedom, according to the Wreaths Across America website.

On Saturday, December 16th, a special ceremony will take place at noon inside the Hart County Courthouse to honor those Hart County servicemen who have passed away.

Nationally, wreath laying will take place at more than 4,200 participating locations across the country, including Arlington National Cemetery – 500 more than last year.

Wreaths Across America anticipates that more than 3 million volunteers—a third of whom are children—will participate in National Wreaths Across America Day.

The event provides a wonderful opportunity for communities to gather during the busiest time of year to pause and say thank you to all who have served and sacrificed for our freedom.

With each balsam wreath placed, the volunteer will also say that service member’s name out loud and keep his or her memory alive.

Since 2007, Wreaths Across America’s $5 pay-back group sponsorship program has resulted in more than $22 million in contributions being made to organizations, enabling them to provide care for our active duty service members, Veterans, and their families.

Again, Hart County’s formal ceremony takes place at noon Saturday inside the Hart County Courthouse and the public from Hart and surrounding counties are welcome to attend.
