GSP Releases Traffic Fatalities Over Holidays

Georgia State Patrol Troopers investigated 14 fatal traffic crashes, and local law enforcement agencies investigated another 10 fatal traffic crashes resulting in 24 deaths across Georgia during the 102-hour Christmas and 102-hour New Year’s holiday travel periods.

In addition to fatal crashes, Troopers statewide investigated over 589 traffic crashes, resulting in nearly 332 injuries during the Christmas period and over 305 traffic crashes were investigated during the New Year’s period resulting in approximately 156 injuries.

There were 15 fatalities during Christmas and nine during New Year’s.

There were no fatal crashes reported in the GSP Troop B Region which includes Franklin, Hart, and Stephens Counties.

Over Christmas weekend, Troopers statewide made 15,717 traffic stops and issued over 8,000 citations. Most of those were for speeding followed by seatbelt violations and DUI.

Over New Year’s, Troopers made 16,967 traffic stops.

Of that, they issued 9,205 citations, again most of those were for speeding followed by seatbelt violations, distracted driving and DUI.
