Gaffney Man Indicted by Hart Co Grand Jury for December, ’23 High-Speed Chase

A Gaffney, South Carolina man has been indicted by the Hart County Grand Jury on multiple counts related to a high-speed chase last December that ended when his vehicle slammed into law offices in Hartwell.

According to the indictment, on December 30th, 2023 Ronnie Kipp Stancil was driving a  2016 Ford Mustang at a high rate of speed down Highway 172 when a deputy spotted him and tried to pull him over. Instead, Stancil fled and a chase ensued.

According to the indictment, the Ford Mustang Stancil was driving had been stolen out of New Mexico.

As the chase continued, Stancil allegedly drove into Hartwell and rammed the vehicle into the law offices of Justin Berelc on West Franklin St. causing damage to the building.

Stancil was arrested at the scene and charged with two counts of Fleeing or Attempting to Elude an Officer, theft by receiving stolen property, theft by bringing stolen property into Georgia, Criminal Damage to Property in the First Degree, Criminal Damage to Property in the Second Degree, Driving Under the Influence, Reckless Driving and four miscellaneous traffic violations, and Possession of Drug-related objects.

No bond was set and Stancil was released on his recognizance.
