Fugitive From Franklin County Jail Captured

An escaped prisoner from the Franklin County Detention Center is back behind bars – captured by authorities Tuesday.

Franklin County Sheriff Stevie Thomas said late Tuesday authorities suspected 20-year old Keibron Brock was hiding out in his mother’s house on SR59 and obtained a search warrant.

“After we obtained a search warrant, deputies searched the inside of his mother’s home and found Brock hiding in the attic,” Sheriff Thomas said late Tuesday. “He was taken into custody without incident.”

Last Friday morning, Brock managed to climb over the wall and razor wire of the Franklin County Detention Center in Carnesville and disappear.

After his escape, Thomas said Brock allegedly stole a 2006 gray Cadillac CTS from a home near the jail.  Hart County Sheriff’s deputies found that vehicle later Friday night abandoned in the parking lot of a church in Bowersville.

Lookouts were put out for Brock in Georgia and South Carolina and the public’s help was solicited to help find him.  Watches were also placed on the home of Brock’s mother.

Thomas said investigators knew Brock’s mother was not living in the house  on SR59 and investigators suspected he might be hiding out there.

“We had a watch placed on the house and for several days we saw the lights going on and off at night, so we knew he was probably in there,” Thomas said.

Thomas credits help Tuesday from multiple law enforcement agencies with Brock’s capture.

“Of course Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies and investigators, deputies with the U.S. Marshal’s office in Macon, GA, troopers from the Georgia State Patrol Toccoa Post and Athens Post, Georgia State Patrol helicopter team, the MANS unit, Canon Police Department, Motor Carriers Compliance Division and officers from Alto State Prison were also on scene.”

Those law enforcement agencies surrounded the house to ensure Brock could not escape through a back door or window, Thomas said.

Thomas said canine units from three agencies also assisted in Tuesday’s take down of Brock along with Franklin County EMS who blocked off Highway 59 while the operation to arrest Brock continued.

“Franklin County EMS stood by and did a wonderful job,” Thomas said. “Franklin County 911 also immediately complied with our request to hold all traffic except emergency traffic on SR59 until the incident was taken care of.”

At the time of his escape, the 20-year old Brock was being held in the Franklin County Detention Center without bond awaiting trial on several charges, including burglary, armed robbery, and aggravated assault going back to last summer and fall.

In July 2012, Thomas arrested Brock and charged him with a string of burglaries in Carnesville, Canon, Sandy Cross, and Royston.

He was out on bond on those charges when he was arrested again in October, 2012, and charged with a home invasion and shooting of an elderly man in the Victoria Bryant Park area of Franklin Springs.

In addition to the home invasion and shooting, Brock and an accomplice were charged with six counts of burglary.  Thomas said the pair stole over $20,000 in merchandise during their crime spree.

Hart County authorities also have warrants for Brock.  Hart County Sheriff Mike Cleveland said Brock and an accomplice are suspects in at least four burglaries there.

Thomas said Brock now faces more charges, including escape and auto theft motor vehicle.  Thomas said the investigation into Brock’s escape continues and more arrests are possible.
