Franklin County Elections Office Moved to Old Carnesville Elementary

The Franklin County Board of Elections is now working out of the old Carnesville Elementary School on Hull Ave in Carnesville.

Elections Supervisor Tracie Creason said all of the elections equipment is being looked by the State to see if they were damaged by the rain.

Creason tells WLHR News the voting machines were all covered and they don’t believe they sustained a lot of damage.

However, they’re not sure about the office computers, which she said all have to be looked at by the County’s IT person. The good news she said is all of the information on those computers is stored in their cloud service so they don’t believe any information was lost.

Roofing crews had been working for over a week at the Board of Elections office on the Royston Road putting on a new pitched roof to replace the old flat roof that was in need of repair. However, workers left the job last week without covering the partially constructed roof. Strong thunderstorms moved the area last Sunday, flooding the entire building.

County Manager Derrick Turner said he expects the roofing contractor’s insurance company will cover the cost of the repairs to the entire building as well as any damage to the new roof.

It’s not known how long it will take to repair the building nor whether it will be done by the November elections.

Anyone with questions can call the Board of Elections at their temporary location at 706-384-4390.
