Franklin County BOE Honors School Principals During National Principal Month

October is National Principal Month and at the Board of Education meeting last week, Franklin County School Superintendent Melanie Burton Brown recognized the principals at all five schools.

The month-long celebration is an opportunity to recognize and thank our principals for their unwavering dedication, exceptional leadership, and remarkable impact on student success.

The five principals in Franklin County include Matt Stowers principal of Franklin Co High School, Jason Swiney, Principal of Franklin County Middle School, Delina Wester, Principal of Carnesville Elementary, Kasey Haley Principal of Lavonia Elementary School, and Quowanna Mattox, Principal of Royston Elementary School.

In her recognition, Burton-Brown said principals must be adept at working not only with students but with teachers and staff.

Melanie Burton Brown also pointed out that principals must be very adaptable and possess strong leadership skills.

Burton Brown added the job of the principal can oftentimes be a 24×7 career and she thanked them for their hard work and flexibility.

Burton-Brown gave each a recognition swag bag for their hard work.

National Principals Month was begun in the early 2000s by the collaborative efforts of several educational organizations to acknowledge the pivotal role that school principals play in the development and success of students and schools.

In 2003, the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) partnered with the American Federation of School Administrators (AFSA) to launch National Principals Month.

The annual observance recognizes the vital role that school principals play in shaping the future of our nation through their dedication to education and leadership.
