Franklin Co Health Dept Building Closes Today for Renovations

A reminder that beginning today the Franklin County Health Department will close for extensive renovations to the building.

But that doesn’t mean citizens will not have access to Health Department services.

District II Public Health spokeswoman Natasha Young said the health department will move to the Franklin County Board of Education, Historical Society Wing on Busha Road in Carnesville on August 21 and will remain there until the renovation is completed.

Young said work on the new building is expected to be completed in mid-October.

During the renovations dental services will move to the Hart County Health Department on Reynolds St. In Hartwell.

WIC began offering remote services on August 1.

Participants in WIC will be served in person, as needed, at Banks County Health Department on Thompson St. in Homer or the Hart County Health Department.

Environmental Health Services will move to the Franklin County Board of Education building.

Women’s Health, Family Planning, Prenatal Case Management, Child Health, Immunizations, General Clinic, STD, and TB services will continue to be accessible during the renovation period.

Appointments are required during the renovation, please call 706-384-5575.

At the Franklin County Commission work session in June, County Manager Derrick Turner told the Board that after an inspection it was determined the building was in need of repair.

According to Turner the main problem with the health department building on Highway 145 in Carnesville is the plumbing and he pointed out the building is one of many county buildings in need of major renovation.

Renovations are being paid for with SPLOST funds according to Turner.

For the latest updates and information on service locations during the renovation, or to schedule an appointment contact the Franklin County Health Department at 706-384-5575.
