Franklin BOC Budget Work Session Pushed to 6p Tonight

Franklin County commissioner have pushed back their scheduled budget work session from this afternoon to this evening.

The meeting will take place at the County Commission office in Carnesville tonight at 6p.

Tonight, they are not expected to hear from department heads, but will discuss the budget in general and requests from the various departments.

Last week, the board heard from three department heads from the County Extension Office, Franklin County EMS and the Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter.

Shelter director Sheri Lockhart spoke on behalf of the shelter’s board of directors.

Lockhart said this year, the board is asking Franklin County to contribute $70,000 for animal intake services.   She said the increase is due to the increased costs of insurance and utilities.

County Extension Agent Ricky Josey is asking the county to provide a pick up truck for his department.

Commissioners last week did not comment on either request.

Franklin County’s fiscal year begins July 1.  So far, a preliminary budget for FY2014 has not yet been released.  Tonight’s budget work session is open to the public.
