Forum for Franklin County Sheriff’s Candidates Scheduled in March

There are several local County elections taking place this year in both Franklin and Hart counties and there will be another opportunity in March for people to hear from the candidates running for Franklin County Sheriff.

A special political forum will be taking place in Lavonia on Saturday, March 23 at 5p at the Lavonia Community Center in which the Mayors and Chiefs of Police of Franklin County municipalities will be able to ask the candidates questions, according to organizer Evoyce  Williams.  The public is invited to come and listen but will be allowed to ask questions.

Speaking for Williams who was sick, Cory Pulliam said the goal is to give voters an idea of where each candidate for Sheriff stands on the issues.

“What we are doing is we are going to form a panel. We’re going to have certain people lined up and they will ask the question. The candidates will then have the opportunity to answer those questions,” Pulliam said. “We’re not going to do an open public forum where anybody can ask questions because it may get out of hand. We’re going to have this organized and that way we can make sure everything is done in an orderly fashion.”

As we reported Monday, there is another political forum taking place that same day in the morning at Franklin Springs City Hall. That forum, featuring all candidates running for Franklin County offices, is sponsored by the Franklin County Republican party. Pulliam emphasized this political forum is not sponsored by any political party.

“No, this is not a political party, this is not Republican or Democrat. This is basically citizens in Franklin County getting together to have a forum debate where the people of Franklin County can come and listen and know exactly where these candidates stand, the things they’re going to do, and the things that concern the community so they (voters) can have a better understanding of what changes need to be made,” he said.

Again, a political forum featuring the candidates running for the office of Franklin County Sheriff will take place at 5p on Saturday, March 23.
