Florida Man Charged in Royston With Meth Possession

A Florida man is behind bars in Franklin County facing drug charges.

According to Royston Assistant Police Chief Brooks Moorehead on January 18 a Royston police officer made a routine traffic stop on a black sedan on Franklin Springs St. For a tail light and window tint violation.

During the stop, the driver, identified as 58-year old David Sean Palmer of Pensacola, FL, told the officer he was on his way back to Florida from Virginia where he was visiting relatives

After running his information, the Officer learned Palmer had warrants out of Arkansas.

Palmer was placed in handcuffs and a second officer searched his vehicle where they found 23 clear plastic bags, a scale, 22 fake 100-dollar bills totaling $2,200, and $1,000 in cash.

The officer also found a small medicine bottle containing a brown liquid. That liquid was field tested and came back positive for 33 grams of methamphetamine.

Additionally, the incident report stated the officers also found four glass bottles containing liquid and yellow flakes, four glass bottles containing liquid and grey flakes, a large quantity of Pokemon cards, a bucket of coins, and several bags of kratom.

According to the DEA, Kratom is a tropical tree native to Southeast Asia. Consumption of its leaves produces both stimulant effects (in low doses) and sedative effects (in high doses) and has addictive properties that can lead to psychotic symptoms, such as hallucinations, delusion, and confusion as well as physiological dependence.

While Kratom is addictive and it is not illegal in the US.
