FEMA Accepting Applications for the FY23 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program

It is vital that firefighters have the tools they need to fight fires safely as was seen with this past weekend’s fire in Royston.

Recently the Federal Emergency Management Agency announced that applications are now being accepted for the Fiscal Year 2023 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program.

FEMA will accept applications through 5 p.m. on March 8.

The expected disbursements for the FY 2023 AFG program is $324 million, matching the $324 million distributed through 1,708 awards for the FY2022 awards.

The grant monies are earmarked for enhancement of the safety of the public and firefighters against fire-related deaths and hazards by funding protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other equipment and resources.

The primary goal of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and non-affiliated emergency medical service organizations.

During that award period, several local counties received large grant awards for equipment, safety, and operations, including a $952,380 grant to the City of Cleveland, in White County for vehicle acquisition, $362,857 went to Banks County for fire vehicle acquisition, and $81,196 was awarded to the City of Demorest for fire department operations and safety equipment.
