Fees Increased at Corps-Manged Campgrounds

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Savannah District announces changes in camping fees charged at Corps-managed campgrounds at Hartwell Lake (Hartwell, Ga.) and J. Strom Thurmond Lake (Clarks Hill, S.C.).

Effective with the fiscal year which began Oct. 1, all camping fees for sites with electricity service have increased $2 per night. All other campsite fees remain the same.

At Thurmond Lake, camping fees remain $6 -$18 per night for primitive sites (sites with no water or electricity). Single sites with electric and water hook-ups cost $22-$26 per night; double sites cost $48 per night. The group camp at Big Hart costs $182 per night.

At Hartwell Lake, camping fees for single sites with electricity and water hookups cost $24-$26 per night; double sites cost $48 per night.

The fee increase was the result of an annual assessment of camping fees charged by similar facilities in the area.

Joe Melton, natural resources specialist with the Savannah District office, tells WLHR News his office is required to do a fee compatibility study every year to ensure the Corps fees are in line with other vendors, such as state, county or private campgrounds.

Melton said the Corps only increases fees as needed to stay in line with similar recreation areas.

Golden Age, Golden Access and America the Beautiful Interagency Senior and Access discounts will still be honored at Corps-managed campgrounds at both lakes.
