FDA Announces Recalls of Coffee, Ice Cream Products

The FDA is warning coffee drinkers that some brands of coffee sold around the country have been recalled due to the risk of a possible “deadly toxin.”

Wisconsin-based Snapchill LLC has issued a voluntary recall of all its canned coffee products after it was determined “their current process could lead to the growth and production of the deadly toxin, botulinum toxin, in low acid canned foods,” according to a recall notice shared by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration.

Botulism is a potentially fatal form of food poisoning with symptoms beginning anywhere from six hours to two weeks after consuming products with the toxin.

The recalled products were distributed nationwide to coffee roasters and retail locations and were also sold online through direct purchase from Snapchill.

The products include several different roasters and brand names, have any expiration date, range in size from 7-ounce to 12-ounce metal cans, and can be identified from the “Produced and distributed by Snapchill LLC” label under the nutrition facts panel.

Consumers are urged to destroy the recalled products or return them to the point of purchase for a refund.

And the maker of several brands of ice cream is recalling its products due to the possibility of Listeria.

Totally Cool, Inc. of Owings Mills, Maryland is recalling multiple brands of ice cream products.

Listeria is an organism that sometimes causes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Listeria infection can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

Some of the ice cream products affected by the recall and sold locally include Hershey’s chocolate and vanilla ice cream cake, Friendly’s Celebration and Strawberry ice cream cake, Cumberland Farms vanilla ice cream sandwiches, and ChipWich chocolate chip ice cream sandwiches.

The affected products were sold at retailers nationwide.

If you have purchased any of these products you should throw them away or take them back to the store for a refund.
