FCHS Teacher Receives Help from SONIC Drive-Thru’s Limeades for Learning Fund

Mrs. Fulbright at Fr. Col. HS is asking for help to purchase reading material for students

A Franklin County High School teacher will receive part of SONIC Drive-in’s $1.5 million grant to help her students read books that focus on real-life experiences.

Mrs. Fulbright at Franklin County High School submitted a project and request for funds through the national education nonprofit site DonorsChoose.

As part of SONIC’s ongoing Limeades for Learning initiative, SONIC donated $1.5 million to Donors Choose to help some 7,000 teachers across the country in need of critical resources.

The project Fulbright submitted to DonorsChoose is titled, “Socially & Emotionally Relevant Reading – Help Me Give My Students Realistic Fiction Texts Focusing on Social and Emotional Life Experiences.”

In her narrative, Fulbright said her students are a unique and diverse group of learners who have huge hearts yet limited resources and opportunities, noting many of her students come from difficult situations and consider school their safe place.

She pointed out that some teens may be overcoming the death of a loved one, while others may be battling with deep depression and in many cases, adolescents feel as though no one understands what they are going through.

That’s why she said books about real-life situations can help young people cope with issues they may be facing and show them they are not alone, possibly encourage them to open up to someone they trust.

Fulbright received $75 from the SONIC Limeades for Learning Initiative, and according to her page on DonorsChoose, she still needs $262 to buy books for her students.
