Dozens of Rescue Teams Continue Search for Missing Rabun County Man

The search for a missing Rabun County continues and authorities continue to ask for the public’s help.

77-year-old Vaughn Callenback went missing Sunday, July 7, and hasn’t been seen or heard from since.

He is believed to have gone missing in the Old Coleman River Road area.

His vehicle was located in the area but there’s been no sign of him.

Callenback is described as a white male, 5’7” 165 Ibs.,with a whitish/gray beard.

According to the Rabun County Emergency Management Agency reported Monday that since the search began, professional, dedicated volunteers with a wide variety of experience returned to the area and have performed diligent and thorough search efforts in hopes of locating Callenback.

In total, ten (10) different certified K-9 resources have responded and were utilized strategically in helping ground teams cover a large search area.

An unmanned aerial system(UAS)drone asset has also been deployed to assist in the initial search.

Search and Rescue teams working this incident also employed the use of a topographical mapping software specifically designed for this type of search operation to ensure search coverage area.

Some of the agencies involved in the search for Callenbeck include Rabun County EMA, Georgia EMA, Central Georgia K-9 Search and Rescue, Spartanburg County Search and Rescue, Pickens County Fire and Rescue, Georgia DNR Law Enforcement and K-9 units, Wildlife Resources Division, and the GBI.

Rabun EMA officials warn that any friends or family searching for Callenback in that area should do so at their own risk because of the steep and dangerous terrain.

They are advised to use extreme caution due to treacherous conditions, venomous snakes, limited communication abilities, and other hazards associated within this rural search area.
