Demorest Man Wins Million in Powerball – Ticket Bought in Toccoa

A Demorest man is celebrating the new year a million dollars richer.

In late January, Walter Vaughn of Demorest bought a Powerball Quick Pik ticket at the RK Foods convenience store in Toccoa.

The ticket matched the first five winning numbers.

Vaughn claimed his winnings on February 12 at the Georgia Lottery District Office in Duluth.

No word on what Vaughn plans to do with all that money.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $16 billion to the state of Georgia for education.

All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program.

More than 1.7 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.3 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
