City of Lavonia Receiving Extra LMIG Funds, GEFA Loan for Generators

The City of Lavonia is getting some extra funding for roads as well for new generators for emergency power sources.

At their meeting this week, the City Council and Mayor heard from City Manager Charles Cawthon regarding funding for both projects.

The first, he said, is extra Local Maintenance Improvement Grant monies from the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Cawthon pointed out the extra LMIG monies will go towards their fall road paving projects.

Additionally, Cawthon said Lavonia has been awarded a FEMA/GEMA grant for power generators.

With that money, the City will purchase four generators to keep the City functioning in the event of power outages.

Cawthon said the FEMA/GEMA grant is a 90% grant with the City of Lavonia responsible for 10% of the project cost.

He added staff will begin the process of ordering the new generators which he said they hope to have installed by the first of next year.
