Change of Flag Day Ceremony Venue in Carnesville

There’s a change of place for today’s Flag Day ceremony in Carnesville.

Franklin County Elections Supervisor Tracie Creason says because of the flood at the Elections office, the ceremony will be held this morning at 10a at the old Carnesville Elementary School.

Employees from Woodmen of the World in Royston and Lavonia will conduct the flag ceremony

National Flag Day is an annual observance for all Americans, but it is not a federal holiday.

America’s Flag Day marks the Second Continental Congress’s adoption of the first U.S. national flag on June 14, 1777.

The first flag featured the same 13 red and white stripes and 13 stars. The current flag with 50 stars, has remained the same since 1960.

Each year, the sitting president encourages all Americans to display the US flag outside their homes and businesses.

In observance of Flag Day, the flag is flown from all public buildings, speeches are made in public places, and ceremonies take place in towns or cities across America.

Again, this morning’s Flag Day ceremony has been moved to the old Carnesville Elementary School on Hull Ave in Carnesville and the public is invited to attend.
