Carnesville Woman Charged in Madison County Wreck That Killed Daughter

A Carnesville woman is facing homicide by vehicle charges in connection with a wreck in Madison County that killed her daughter.

According to a report in the Madison County Journal, it happened July 30, 2013 at the intersection of Jot-Em Down Road and Hudson River Church Road.

Authorities say 31-year old Shirley Renea Woods’ 2002 Mercury Mountaineer failed to stop at the stop sign on HudsonRiver Church Road and was broadsided by a 2000 Dodge Durango.

Woods 10-year old daughter, Kaitlyn, was in the back seat at the time of the crash and was not wearing a seatbelt.

She was taken to Athens Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. The Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team investigated the accident.

Last week, Woods was charged with misdemeanor second-degree homicide by vehicle and failure to obey a stop sign.
