Busy Weekend of Events Across Our Area

This is a busy weekend in our area with various events taking place on Saturday.

Hartwell Helps Exp takes place Saturday at the Bell Family YMCA from 9a to 1p. Sponsored by the Hart Interdenominational Ministry, this is the eighth annual event designed to give people access to non-profit and government agencies for help in various areas.

The FCHS Spotlight Players will be getting into the spirit of Halloween this weekend with their annual Haunted House.

The Haunted House will be open to the public Saturday night from 6:30-11 p.m. at the Telford Center for the Fine and Performing Arts at the high school in Carnesville. Tickets are $10, cash and check only.

The annual Canon Fall Festival is tomorrow from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Depot Street in downtown Canon.

The festival will include games, food, prizes, and craft vendors.

Various local musical artists will provide entertainment from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. From 2-5 p.m., the Second Hand News will entertain. The Country River Band will wrap up the festival with a concert from 6-10 p.m. For more information, call 706-245-8155.

And in Toccoa, this year’s 23rd annual Currahee Military Weekend is underway through Sunday.

Today’s events include a Canteen chicken-q from 11a to 1p in McNeely Hall at Toccoa First United Methodist Church, a Living Historian Encampments downtown, a memorabilia show downtown, a book signing, and a USO-style Swing Dance.

Saturday’s events include the Currahee Mountain Challenge Run, a Veteran’s Parade, a downtown battle reenactment, a Banquet, and more.

Sunday concludes the weekend with a memorial and tribute to veterans at Camp Toccoa at Currahee.
