A Frosty Weekend Ahead But Warming Centers Available to Those Who Need Them

State Meteorologist Will Lanxton is warning of extreme cold over the weekend with temperatures dipping down into the teens for most of Northeast Georgia.

Lanxton said another cold front is set to move through Georgia tonight and another Wind Chill Advisory is expected for this weekend.

Behind the cold front will be another dry and frigid airmass that will filter into Georgia throughout the day today.

Then, temperatures will plummet after sunset this evening, and low temperatures on Saturday and Sunday mornings will be in the teens.

Saturday’s high is only expected to be in the mid-30s.

And as we’ve been telling you a church in Canon has opened its doors as a place to get warm.

The Creek Church is offering its church fellowship hall as a temporary warming center for those who experience loss of heat or power during the expected cold weather.

If you are in need of a warm place to stay during the extreme cold weather, call Pastor Chris at 706-961-4969.

The Creek Church is located at 3287 Hwy. 17, Canon, GA.

Additionally, Hart County will offer warming centers at certain county owned buildings for those who are experiencing loss of heat, power, or just need to get out of the cold.

A warming center is a SHORT-TERM emergency shelter that operates when temperatures or a combination of precipitation, wind chill, wind, and temperature become dangerously inclement.

This is a temporary solution until other arrangements can be made.

If you need assistance, please call the non-emergent E911 number at 706-376-3930 or come to the front entrance at 800 Chandler Street in Hartwell.
