Gumlog Man Charged in Tennessee with Stealing From Employer

A Gumlog man is being held in the Montgomery County, Tennessee jail on charges of stealing over $7,000 from his employer.

According to a report in the Clarkesville Today newspaper this week, 32-year-old Joseph Tittle was arrested for allegedly stealing from Renegade Racing & Performance in Clarkesville, the business where he was employed as the manager.

Authorities with the Montgomery County, TN Sheriff’s Office say that in June 2024, a customer was invoiced $4,500 for vehicle repairs.

Tittle allegedly advised the customer that the price had increased to $6,703.91 due to parts and labor difficulty.

Later, an audit of the company’s invoices found a forged invoice for $4,500 on the customer’s vehicle repair logged into the invoice system.

Another invoice for the $6,703.91 which is what the customer had paid, was found in the Renegade Racing and Performance email trash folder.

That left $2,203.91 unaccounted for in the repair shop’s records.

The Sheriff’s Office then received another call regarding a separate case in which Tittle again allegedly pulled the same scam.

In late October 2023, investigators say another customer paid $5,000 directly to Tittle for an engine swap through Renegade Racing.

When work began on the vehicle in July 2024, the owner of Renegade Racing called the customer who told him that he had already paid for the engine swap.

Investigators found that the $5,000 payment never reached Renegade Racing’s books, and there was no invoice for the original quote or receipt for that payment.

However, the customer was able to provide screenshots of the texts between him and Tittle, discussing the $5,000 price for the swap.

The customer also provided the owner with statements from the day he withdrew the money from his account.

After further investigation, Tittle was taken into custody on August 5th and charged with two counts of property theft.

A Judge set his bond at $30,000.
