New Dill’s Food City Construction Getting Closer Say Owners

Construction on the new Dill’s Food City in Royston is getting closer.

That’s according to Dill’s co-owner Tracy Dilworth.

Dilworth took time Tuesday evening after the Royston City Council meeting to talk to WLHR News about where they are with the plans to rebuild.

He said they’re hoping to begin construction in the coming weeks but a lot still depends on suppliers and engineers.

Dill’s burned to the ground in February.

The cause was never determined but in April, the State Fire Marshal’s office ruled the fire accidental adding that an electrical issue could not be ruled out.

Dill’s Food City has been an anchor in the Royston community since it opened in 1955 and for many, it’s the only grocery store where they will shop.

Realizing the vital role Dill’s Food City has played in Royston, Dilworth said the new store will still reflect that hometown feel their customers have come to know and appreciate.

Dilworth said there will of course be upgrades and improvements and he added that the layout for the new store is already done.

One favorite feature of Dill’s Food City was their Deli Department, especially on Sundays when many people came after church to order their Sunday dinner.

Tracy said that will be back bigger and better than ever but with the same good hometown cooking customers have enjoyed for years.

As for how long it will take before the new store is built and open, at this point Dilworth said they only have a rough estimate.

Dilworth added that customers should continue to check their Facebook page for future announcements and updates as they get closer to construction.
