Franklin County Sheriff Steve Thomas Attends Sheriff’s Conference

Franklin County Sheriff Steve Thomas recently returned from a special conference to update members of the Georgia Sheriff’s Association on the latest concerns of law enforcement as it relates to public safety.

The three-day conference took place July 23-25 at Lake Lanier Islands resort.

Sheriff Thomas was one of 102 sheriffs from around the State who attended multiple
training sessions, received timely information from subject matter experts, and conducted
Association business.

Expert speakers provided training to the sheriffs on legislative and legal issues, gang awareness, immigration enforcement, election laws, and other topics.

Among the guest speakers during the conference were Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, Georgia Commissioner of the Department of Juvenile Justice Shawanda Reynolds-Cobb, and the Georgia Department of Agriculture’s Harlan Proveaux.

Other highlights of the conference included the installation of the 2024-2025 officers for the Georgia Sheriffs Association.

The newly elected officers include Association President Crawford County Sheriff Lewis Walker; 1st Vice President Forsyth County Sheriff Ron Freeman, 2nd Vice President Bulloch County Sheriff Noel Brown, and Secretary-Treasurer, Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch.
