Sign Up Now for Lavonia Police Dept’s Second Citizens’ Police Academy

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be a police officer?

Well, Lavonia citizens or those who work in Lavonia will have a chance to find out soon by enrolling in the second Citizens’ Police Academy.

Sponsored by the Lavonia Police Department, Chief Shane Edmisten said the Academy will meet once a week for eight weeks beginning on September 3 through October 22.

He said the idea is to give ordinary citizens to see what it’s really like to be a law enforcement officer.

The Chief said those enrolled will meet every Tuesday evening from 6p to 8p and classes will feature classroom time as well as activities – all covering a different aspect of law enforcement.

Edmisten added that participants will also be able to do up to four hours of ride-alongs with an officer to get an idea of what they do on a day-to-day basis.

The classes will culminate with a graduation ceremony and dinner for the participants, according to Chief Edmisten.

Class space is limited and registration is due by August 27.

You can click here to access the registration form or go to the Lavonia Police Dept Facebook page.

Background checks will be done on everyone who signs up.

Anyone with questions can contact Chief Edmisten at the Lavonia Police Department at 706-356-4848.
