Troop 51 Eagle Scouts Display Finished Community Projects

Three other Eagle Scouts from Troop 51 were proud to show off their individual projects last week to the Lavonia City Council and Mayor Courtney Umbehant.

The projects all benefit the citizens of Lavonia in some way.

The Scouts recently added a new firepit behind the Scout Hut as part of the effort to renovate and make improvements to the hut and surrounding grounds.

To that end, Eagle Scout Nicholas Alasano added seat benches around the fire pit behind the Scout Hut.

A second project added by Eagle Scout Noah Palmer is a new activity for everyone at Lavonia City Park.

Palmer’s project was to build a large inground checkerboard and checkers for visitors of all ages to the park.

In addition to the checkerboard and checkers, Noah also designed a special box to store the checkers that also contains a list of rules for the game.

And Eagle Scout Nathan Estrada’s project is not at the City Park or at the Scout Hut but is an extension of the Memorial/Veteran walk in front of the Gazebo on E. Main St. in downtown Lavonia.

According to the Boy Scouts of America, the rank of Eagle Scout is the highest and most prestigious achievement a Scout can attain.

Highly respected, the title of Eagle Scout carries with it special significance not only in Scouting but also in school, business, and the community.

To attain the Eagle rank, a Scout must earn at least 21 merit badges, fulfill leadership roles and display outdoor skills, demonstrate by example the Scout Oath and Law, and complete a comprehensive service project in the community.
