Franklin County Rabies Clinics Set for Saturday

If you missed the chance to have your dogs or cats vaccinated for rabies last month at the rabies clinic at the Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter,  you will have another chance at the low cost vaccinations Saturday.

A countywide rabies clinic takes place all day Saturday at various locations in Franklin County.

Franklin County Health Department’s Environmental Health Director Louis Korff says all three veterinarians in Franklin County will be conducting the rabies clinic at the same low price of $5.

This past week, Royston Police shot and killed a fox that exhibited signs of rabies.

“When the fox tried to get up and run you could visibly notice it was sick unable to hold its balance. The fox showed several characteristics of a rabid animal and my Supervisor made the decision to put the animal down for the safety of the general public,” Boleman said.

He said no one or other animals had come in contact with the fox. Boleman said his office contacted the Franklin County Health Department and they picked up the animal to send for testing.
