Bowman Man Sentenced to Life for 2023 Murder of Girlfriend

In Elbert County, A Bowman man will spend the rest of his life in prison after pleading guilty to killing his girlfriend on New Year’s Day, 2023.

According to Northern Judicial Circuit District Attorney Parks White, 35-year-old Andrew Nicholas Berry pleaded guilty this week to murder and Cruelty to Children in the First Degree and was sentenced to life in prison for the stabbing death of 21-year-old Destiny Autumn Huff.

When Elbert County Sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene they found Huff unresponsive.

It was determined later that Huff died of multiple stab wounds.

Berry fled the scene after a witness saw him standing over Huff’s body.

A BOLO was put out for Berry who was located about six hours later in Hart County near Ruckers Grove Church Road and arrested.

In addition to murder, Berry was also charged with nine other felonies including malice murder, five counts of aggravated assault, two counts of cruelty to children, and possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a felony.

Elbert County Coroner Chuck Almond said later that Huff’s murder was the result of a domestic dispute.

Berry was also sentenced to 20 years for the Cruelty charge.

He will not be eligible for parole consideration until 2053.
