Georgia Mountain Regional Unemployment Rate Rises Slightly in March

All of Georgia’s Regional Commissions reported a slight rise in March unemployment rates.

Despite the slight uptick, State Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson says continuous growth is a strong indicator that our economic momentum is not slowing down any time soon.

Thompson said once again, Georgia continues to shatter records in growing businesses statewide and creating jobs for hardworking Georgians.

In the Georgia Mountains region which includes Franklin, Hart, and Stephens counties, the unemployment rate was up a tenth of a percent to 2.7 percent in March, but down from 2.8 percent a year ago.

Last month, the Region’s labor force was up 1,312 and the the number of employed workers in the Georgia Mountains Region was also up by 940.

Initial unemployment claims were down 27% last month.

Georgia’s overall March unemployment rate was 3.1, unchanged from a revised 3.1 percent in February.
