Preps Underway for National Day of Prayer Next Month

Plans are in the works for this year’s National Day of Prayer.

As they do every year, the Interdenominational Women’s Bible Study will host a prayer service on the grounds of the Hart County Courthouse on May 2 beginning at noon.

Spokesperson Judy Voigt tells WLHR News this year’s theme is LIFT UP THE WORD/LIGHT UP THE WORLD based on Scripture from Samuel 22: 29-31.

Ministers from seven different churches in Hart County will lead those attending in a special prayer on different topics.

At all of the services on the National Day of Prayer seven specific areas are prayed for, including the country’s government and leadership, education, the media, the economy, churches, the family unit, and the military.

Voigt said there will also be the Pledge of Allegiance and patriotic songs will be sung.

This will be the 73rd National Day of Prayer.

The National Day of Prayer tradition predates the founding of the United States of America, evidenced by the Continental Congress’ proclamation in 1775 setting aside a day of prayer.

In 1952, Congress established an annual day of prayer and, in 1988, that law was amended, designating the National Day of Prayer as the first Thursday in May.

92.1 WLHR will carry the Hart County National Day of Prayer live at noon from the square in downtown Hartwell.
