Regional Unemployment Rate Holds Steady in February

The unemployment rate in the Georgia Mountains Region remained unchanged in February at 2.6%.

According to the Georgia Department of Labor, the labor force was up 2,522 over-the-month.

Additionally, the number of employed was up 2,525 over-the-month.

Initial claims for unemployment were down 23% in February for a total over the year total of 827 workers still looking for jobs.

State Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said last week that all of Georgia’s Regional Commissions experienced unchanged or declining unemployment rates for February.

Thompson added that Georgia continues to thrive, fueled by a powerhouse workforce and savvy economic investments.

He noted that for the past 48 months and counting, Georgia has continued to outshine the nation with low unemployment and high-quality jobs.

Thompson pointed to the regional unemployment numbers as a testament to what he called a remarkable track record of success and Georgia’s ability to drive economic opportunity across virtually every corner of the state.
